Dr. Shi has a strong passion to develop novel optical techniques for neuroscience and metabolism research. Her current work with Prof. Wei Min established a breakthrough platform that combines deuterium oxide probing with stimulated Raman scattering microscopy to image in situ metabolic activities in animals, which is a major advance in the bio-imaging field by visualizing protein biosynthesis, de novo lipogenesis and DNA dynamics. Dr. Shi’s recent discovery of the “Golden Optical Window”, offers a new technique for deep brain imaging that has been widely recognized. And her work on photons propagating through tissues and scattering media opens a new door for quantum entanglement theory in brain study.
